So I come home tonight and my mom says there's something growing on my tank-I take a look and there's hundreds of tiny 'spots' with feather-like things waving in the current. They're all over the front and back glass, a few on the sides, but I've never seen anything like it. What the HECK are these things?? and more importantly, should I be worried or excited????? Stuff's growing all over the rocks now. I know some of it's algae, but i don't know if it's GOOD algae or BAD algae.:confused2: It's been 2 weeks this Saturday that I got everything up and running-I'm adding a 'pinch' of flake food every day to help the bacteria develop-Could that be part of it? These things just appeared in the last day or so...Will they crawl out of the tank and snatch our bodies????I think I'll try to come to the meeting Tuesday and bug all y'all with stupid questions :wow2:

When I first set up my tank there was always something new happening and never was sure if it was good or bad. Use this site and it will help you figure out what it is and if it is good or bad.

Good Luck and hope to see you at the meeting

a type of hair algae I get it sometimes usally goes away on its own I just clean it of the glass with my magnet cleaner...sorry dont know the name

OK, Thanks y'all-I'll get a magnet cleaner-It's still too early for my 'cleaning crew'...I just have my halides on for 6 hours, then the flourescents for 10 and the moonglow for 8. I'm just using distilled water for topping off for right now until I get through the cycling process. I plan to go ahead and buy an RO/RI unit in the next month or so...

Start buying RODI water from your LFS until you get your RODI unit. Also go ahead and get a CUC this will help algae control.

I wouldn't put in any invert until you have fully cycled and the ammonia is out of the tank. Many inverts are highly sensitive to ammonia.
