Has anyone used this type of lighting on your tank? i heard that they omit 35% more light than the wattage consumed. Example:337 watts of light for 250 watts of power consumed.

HPS bulbs are typically around 5000k in color. Some a little less, others a little more depending on brand. Not advisable for a reef setup. Your tank will look yellow all the time.

Thanks for the info, Guys. I think I'll pass on the idea and keep my Power compact/ Metal halide combo.

That is imposssible. It takes around 15% more watts to produce the rated wattage of most any HID bulb. Some can produce more lumens per watt but not wattage.

maybe he means its more efficient compared to a halogen? like a 60w light bulb vs 14w cfl
