So i donated my 30gal cube to the school last week but we ran in to one problem. I was vodka dosing the tank and the school dose not want to have alcohol at the school. So can some of you point me in some detailed instructions on other types of carbon dosing. and what type do you think would be best for the school to use.

IMO the easiest might be the Red Sea No3:P04x. For that size tank it would be cheap to dose it, instruction are on the bottle, and it has good reviews.

I am no expert on the subject matter, and maybe cost is an issue, but what about bio pellets?

there is also vinegar dosing. I just think they mls is higher for vinegar than vodka.

i like the idea of the red sea product just wasn't sure about how to make the transition. Cost is a factor and i don't want to do bio pellets because i don't have any more room in the stand for equipment and with it being at the school i want every thing to be contained.

just so you have all the info the the tank is a 30gal cube with a sump and fuge it is probable over stoked with 5 fish, a fire shrimp, cuc, and lots of mixed coral

You can use vinegar. Depends on the ammount you dose, but it does have the ability to make your pH drop. Pure powdered vitamin C will work as well.

that is good for you. i set up a biocube in my wifes school and within a week some kid(punk) poured Monster in the tank and killed everything. its sad how actions of a few can ruin it for everyone.

hope we don't have that prob. i told them it needed to be under constant supervision

the more i read the more I'm leaning towards vitamin c

I wish I had been exposed to the hobby back in high school

Me too. I set one a bit small tank for my classroom. My students love it and get really attached to it.

well its been there since last friday after school and to day i went to check on it and the head of the science department said that this was more than they where thinking and they don't think they can keep it

I had my bc29 and it was to much for me to bring home during the breaks. I went this time with a 10 gal. I should have gone a little bigger though.

At my school/county they tend to cut the power during long breaks. Plus transporting the water. Making sure its at temp. before putting it back in. The little water left in the tank during transport gets cloudy. Its a lot of work but its a good model for teaching a host of concepts.

That's kind disappointing, but can I understand. I was blessed by going to a high school in Florida that had a Marine Biology program and it was really cool, between that and Mote Marine Laboratories, I got a little spoiled.

If they choose to keep the system, please let me know...I'd to donate something from my tank
:-)

thanks but unless they have some loses it kind of over stoked already. I am trying to get it to where it doses vit c with an auto feeder and food with another auto feeder so they can leave it for up to a week with no prob then i will do water changes for them and take it back in the summer. maybe that will be enough for them to keep it
