Holy Sh..!

Bogdan, if you need that tank picked up from Gary's let me know. Have truck will travel.

Regardless of what happens, I would think the tank is going to need to be emptied to be repaired & inspected or replaced.

That's something I'd get on right away. Find a couple of 100gal rubbermaid tubs that you can borrow and get to moving.

Sorry to hear about all this...

It can be ready at will, just let me know and I can run home and clear it out.

Yep, just let me know. I'm headed to the shop in a few to get a few things done but I could feasibly pick it up early afternoon or afterward if need be.

I just got off the phone with them. They are researching the purchase and beside offering to send me a new brace and caulk, are suggesting making me a new tank! But that remains an open issue.

It's good that they are standing behind their product. Right now though you have more pressing concerns. Hope you are able to figure something out before it blows :(

I've got two clamps on it now and the glass is not bowed and the seams are looking OK! Once I put the first clamp on last night the seam showed no stress at all. Right now the stress is all inside me. Sent pictures to Deep Sea. Working on emergency back up plans right now, thanks to all the generous offers that have shown up in the past couple of hours!!!

I've been advised by the Management of Deep Sea that since the tank was NOT ON THEIR STAND there is no warranty. I was not informed of that when I bought it! I bought the tank with a stand that was professionally made, from a respected retailer!
They offered to send me a new center brace and caulk tomorrow

BTW: I am now in contact with the retailer!

I could understand their point of nto being on their stand if it had a leak...but the GD centerbrace fell out...Im no expert but what would a stand have to do with that?

That's actually pretty standard across the industry - no warranty if not on their stand. Usually that's stated in the warranty paperwork.

You can always file an insurance claim against them (I believe there are consumer protection laws in this state that go beyond the usual "limitations of liability") I have seen other manufacturers pay claims for damage, loss etc., but it all depends on what happened.

If the tank is uneven, it will put load on a pane, which, if the centerbrace is supporting, its seams will also be under load. This policy is pretty common with most professional aquarium fabricators. Make sure you read the warranties!!!!

Regardless, good luck man. I hope it works out.

In my humble opinion the glass broke free of the silicone. Looks as thought none went with the center brace, it all stayed on the front and back glass. I spent 36 years with a silicone manufacturer and sold silicone RTV to many aquarium mfgs in the 70's.
However, having said that I'm not sure I'm into all the "claims hassle"?

I'm not unsympathetic... believe me I am (even offered to help if I can).

I was simply pointing out that DS's warranty is not unusual. In fact Oceanic (where DS came from - DS came from the same staff as Oceanic's old customs department when Oceanic moved to WI).... Oceanic did not warranty any tank that wasn't on their stand.

I don't think it matters what the issue is, per se, if it's not on their stand while in use, it voids the warranty. Not saying I agree with that as a good practice either, but it just is what it is.

Don I'm really sorry that this happened to so. I hope you get something figured out soon.

But if you were sold the tank and the retailer said it has a lifetime warranty then I'd hold them to that and make them replace it.

There is no warranty that has no terms. You can't hold somebody to a warranty that you "think" should be X, Y or Z. They're written very specifically and for a reason. It's just one of those things you need to accept.

Jenn: I didn't mean to sound disrespectful of your advice, council and offers of help!
I purchased the tank under extreme distress as my old one failed. I never saw a warranty nor did I have the presence of mind to ask (silly me)! Knowing what I know now, I will never buy a tank that isn't under full warranty and doesn't meet the manufacturers warranty conditions! Word of caution to retailers: if that's the case with most tank manufacturers then why would you sell a tank and a stand that's not supported by the manufacturer?
Now back to the problem, I have looked at the failure and feel that it is a defect that the manufacturer of the tank and the silicone supplier need to know about. I have reached out to Deep Sea to talk to them about this and have yet to get a call back from their management. (as I've said previously I have 36 years with a silicone mfg under my belt!)
Deep Sea is sending me a new center brace and a tube of caulk. I have serious concerns about the quality of the silicone they are using. I'll update you all as things progress!

If it's any comfort, most of the failures I've seen (and there really haven't been that many, relative to the amount of people in the hobby that I encounter), most have been on stands from the same manufacturer as the tank :-/

In a most recent case, the stand is the prime suspect as the cause of the failure. Go figure.

I usually sell the same brand of stand, as tank (ie meets requirements). If they want to buy something else from me, I tell them about that stipulation (but it's not in writing, maybe it should be...hrmmm). If someone buys just the tank (no stand) I'm as guilty as the next one I guess, of not mentioning that it voids the warranty.

Duly noted...time to make a policy adjustment.

Hey, thanks for the candor! I'm still stressed out! Spent a long time on the phone with my son (dartfrog) and he mentioned you replied to the last post! It's time we meet up! So I can thank you in person for your continuing support of the club and the hobby! See ya after the tank get's fixed!

That will at least give you a place to house stuff. It's got a bulkhead in the bottom so it could be plumbed in to your filtration system. I'll be home most all day today but then I'm out of town beginning around 6 tonight. Call me if you need or want it. 706-360-0206.
I want to thank everyone that offered comments and support following my tumultuous day and 1/2. I took up Porpoisaquatic's offer to loan me a stock tank! I borrowed the the tank/tub today and hope I don't have to use it!

You're welcome :) Glad Jeff got you sorted out with a backup plan!
