Over the last few weeks my girlfriend has been insisting that shes seen our Pink Spotted Goby snatch Hermit crabs and bring them to his little cave. At first I figured he was merely moving rock around the tank as usually. Just a minute ago I saw him grab up a live hermit and drag the poor little guy in his dungeon.
I'm sitting on the fence here, one possible senario is he is reaggaiging the tank as usually. Merely picking up hermits by way of honest mistake or...... He is a homicidal goby intent on murdering harmless and inoccent hermet crabs?

your goby... my lobster, he likes astras the best as he eats 5-6 a week ive seen him pluck one off the rocks and make a mad dash with it.. he also likes hermits bought 4 last week have 1 left.... i think you should just buy more hermits IMO it will become entertaining...

I have had gobies do that to but the were not eating the crab but using the shell as part of his burrow and tunnel system

That's not true I've never biten into anything that's still alive. This guy is comparable to the craigslist killer, he lures them in with pieces of Silversides, as soon as they near he snatches them up and into his cave for only god knows what. Poor, Hermits!

BTW Columbus Reef, this was more a an exploratory posting as to if others have had goby behavior similar to this with a little humor thrown in. If he is killing them (which I doubt) they are .99 cents of which I really don't need in the tank to begin with.
