As passionate as most of us are about this hobby, I truly hope after this storm passes I don't read about a lot of mass tank crashes. I'm less then a year into the hobby and I must say, I'm not nearly prepared enough with what may happen. I'm having to stay the next several night at my building to insure operational function. This leaves me without a chance to salvage the system. Unfortunately, the tank will have to be run on auto pilot until I can make it back. I pray we don't go without power for too long...

Good luck everyone and I hope you and your families and our passionate hobby all overcomes this. Fingers crossed!

I'm gonna PM you my number just in case there's anything I can do to help.

That's Josh! Appreciate it man.

Jeff- I know you would. I'm just afraid the power is defiantly gonna go out and everything I've worked hard for isn't gonna matter because I'm stuck here. I've got $500 wrapped up in just two frags... This is a crappy feeling.

I wonder, if I have a gas stove could I get my wife to scoop DT water out and heat it on the the stove to try and maintain a temp?

I went and bought a battery backup.. This should keep my powerhead running for 12hrs.. I will keep this running it intermittently to keep the oxygen levels up. As far as water temperature is concerned, i am counting on my gas fireplace in that room to keep the temperature in the high 60s.

Float hot water bottles in the tank.

Yep.....heat water on the stove and keep it rotating. It should do fine. I've actually had water temps drop down to around 66 degrees before and was able to keep everything alive....you just have to bring the temp back up at the same rate it went down.

If the forecasts are correct, the main ice problem areas will be south and east of I-20. Things can always change, but for the North Atlanta suburbs the forecast is for 1/10-1/4 inch of ice and 1-3 inches of snow only. Let's hope for the best for everyone. Seems north of us they will be getting decent snowfall amounts.

Wish you the best.
You can plan and plan, but eventually everything will just have to work itself out. That being said, should you have a crash, let me know and I'll be happy to frag most anything I've got.

I'm counting on our fireplace and a battery operated airstone. The freezing rain has started on the west side but looks like the east side is getting it much worse. Good luck everyone!

Over here (mall of GA area) it started hailing around 2 am, got a solid layer if that on the ground probably a half inch, then it started snowing around 5 and there's a blanket completely covering the ground now.

Looks like it's gonna be a long day.

Just got off work and plan on sleeping a few hours in my truck outside work. My wife has been up all night ready to act if the power went out... now she is asleep and I'm hoping for the best that the power stays on while she is sleeping. I likely will not be home til Friday morning.

Brandon I'm in your shoes also buddy. I figure when the power goes out, I've asked my the wife to put the thermometer in the DT to monitor the tank temp so I can calculate the loss of heat per hour. Now I've just got to figure out, at what temp do I have to heat the water on the stove and at the right volume of water.

I appreciate the offers. Hopefully none of is will have to have a frag party for members. This one is gonna be tough guys and girls...

Brandon, I cam in from NW Forsyth Co to Kennesaw this morning. Roads we not that bad. Slow and steady. I was one of only a few which helped a lot. :-)

Well, my father have me a great idea. He said wrap the top of the DT with Saran Wrap and put several thick blankets over the top and around the sides to help insulate. Good for thought for anyone else that's in a tight squeeze over the next few days.

The tank has to breathe or there won't be any O2 exchange. Wrapping is a good idea but I wouldn't recommend completely covering the top.

True! I was hoping while the hot water was getting poured into the display the splash would oxygenate the water...

Rich, I decided to stay due to having to be back at 2. Being a union shop... most here will lay out at first chance they get. I don't mind, easy money for me. Slept pretty descent... just not enough. Still have power as of last I checked so just hoping it stays that way til I'm get home.

Good luck Brandon. The roads home were passable at noon but as soon as the sun goes down it will change. I would agree that if you are there it would be best to stay and collect some cash. :-). Power here hasn't so much as flickered but then it has always been stable out here.

I know you all think I have no heart but now I have an ultrasound to prove it. :-)
