It's been five years since I've last been in the hobby, so I cannot recall if it's normal or not, but my MP40QD dry side feels awfully hot to the touch. Using a temp gun, it's reading 125 degrees! Can anybody take a temp reading of theirs for me?

There are bearings inside the motor which do go bad. At 125 degrees, that is too hot to touch which presents a product liability hazard.

Based on that, my guess is it’s safe to say that it may be time to replace the dry side. Or, if you’re game, to replace the bearings.

Fwiw- There was a YouTube video on replacing the bearings, but you will need access to an arbor press.

Agreed. Just checked my MP60s and they read at 85 at the highest but they have a a fan for cooling. My mp40s on another tank read at 87 at the highest.
