How deep of water should my swc/msx/octopus 300 be in?

Any one know how deep of water I should keep my swc 300 in?

I think around 8" is what is recommended for most octopus skimmers.

Cool.Any idea What's the best way to drill out a broken drain plug that is on the collection cup.After drilling it out should i epoxy a new one in or drill and tap a barbed fitting in?
