How do you have your lights mounted on your open top tank?

I have yet to mount the mights on my new setup, and I've had it with my bootleg look of 2x4's. I would like to mount the lights to my ceiling which is about 24" from the top of my tank. Any suggestions on how to mount these? I do have pieces that will screw into the top of the fixture with a metal cable attached. I am just looking for ideas on how to make the mount look clean.

Yeah, we copied your idea and it works GREAT. It's nice to have the light up out of the way when working in the tank.

I have mine hanging in my canopy hood, as high as i could get them, that way I can stil get my hands in the tank without taking the canopy off.

Mine hang from the ceiling -- scared me to death having 45 lbs hanging by two small wires -- so far so good -- and the look is very clean.

Mine hang via 4 cables to the ceiling. If you are going to do that I would strongly recommend buying a piece of wood/trim wood and cutting that to the length of your lights or tank. Then paint that wood with ceiling paint and screw into the ceiling, then screw in you cable ends, with cable stops to the wood. Your joists/studs are probablly not positioned directly over either end of the spot you want to mount the lights. If you try to go directly to the joists you will be crooked. If felt it was important to be into wood and not just drywall as I am suspending my canopy, 2 metal halides and some power compacts. I have absolute confidence the arrangement is not going to come out of the ceiling.

Best of luck.

Had it mounted from the ceiling when I had my Current HQI Orbit fixture using light fixture chain. Looked not to shabby and was easy to adjust if needed. But with the teklight i have now it had legs. But my tank is still open.

At My Reef Creations we can cut custom legs for lights. You just drill a few small holes in your fixture and secure it with a screw. I'm sure we can do that part for you if you bring your light in. You can reach us at (678) 407-3773 and we are an ARC sponsor.
