I posted this before, but I never got a proper answer, so I decided to make another with poll options this time!

So, how far in advance do you make your water?

No consistent practice. I mix it, and do the change when I have time. Sometimes 30mins sometimes a week.

I change my water on Saturday and make a fresh 30 gal that same day. So it mixes till the next saturday.

I think a big factor to this discussion is what kind of salt do you use. I would love to be able to use or atleast try seachem salinity but because I like to mix my salt for about 12-36 hours, due to lifestyle, that salt mix will not work for me bc it is best at around a 3 hour mix, longer and it makes your tank cloudy.

I like reef crystals bc of the ease and I have setup my system to cater to the lower ca and alk comepareitively.

Just a thought...

RO water is all was available.

Salt is mixed on the day I plan to use it.

Weeks / Months....

I always keep 28 gallons made up. I used 15 of it each weekend and add salt and RODI water to keep it full. An hour or so before the water change I check and adjust the salinity level if needed.

I do keep a power head in the container and have done this for well over two years with no problem. (What's the difference if the water is in a storage container or in your tank?)

yea, i just have a big barrel that I constantly keep topping off after water changes, i just wanted to make sure I wasn't the crazy one and there's no real detriment to it.

30 min. Cause it's about how much notice I give Dylan for maintence

I attempt to always have 50 gallons or so mixed on hand. Never know if you'll have need for saltwater, so better to have than to wait. Being in Mid GA with few other members, you can find yourself in need and no assistance. There are quite a few more folks now than 5yrs ago in the area, but still better to be prepared.
