I have a 72" Aquamedic spacelight 150x3 MH and 4x24 actinic pc. The tank is a 125G rr 72x18x22. I was thinking 8in from the top of the tank. Im not really sure though need some help with it.

If there is any way to make it adjustable that would probably be best. Your tank isn't that wide so you should be ok with just about anything you really wanted. I would start with 9-12 inches and see how it looks

Ive tried to figure out if I could make it adjustable but I have to put it on the wall. It has glass on it to protect the lights from splashing bc when I got it had alot of salt residue on it.

are you going to have a canopy? If so you can make a bracket in canopy and put it on aircraft cable and cable grippers. If not you can do the same thing from the ceiling. There are ways to make it adjustable but on a tank that is only 18" wide you probably won't have issues with not having enough spread. The closer to the water the more heat though

No canopy. I wasn't going to hang it Bc my ceiling is slanted and I have that crap on it where if you touch it white crap falls from it.

I've had that same light mounted 8" over my 150 for about 8 years. With and without glass covers on the tank.
