Right now the area behind my stand is a huge mess of wires. I need to fix this, and I am curious to see what others have done. Lets see some pix!

Mount everything to the side of the stand or to a board, and then go to home depot and pick up velcro straps and they also usually have these cable holders which are designed to be nailed into joists and hold like 5 separate pieces of Romex. Those things work awesome for cleaning up the cords.

one thing that helped me on my build was to make a section of the stand a "Dry" area. there is a divider under the stand. On one side is the sump and stuff... then there are holes that wires go through.. on the other side is all the stuff I DONT WANT TO GET WET.

I put down shower pan and made it "lip" up the sides so that it will hold quite a bit of water, and I have no electronics in it. All my cords go UP.

Mine is a total octopus of cords right now. I did go buy a bunch of the velcro strips to start organizing, I just haven't gotten to it yet.

Part of my issue is that I contain everything in the stand or directly behind it and most cords (for good reason) are like 6-10 feet long. That extra cord is most of what is piled up back there. In most cases I only need about 24" of the cord for what I am doing.

I used a cable wrap to organize mine. Works great.

I use cable hangers shown in the picture below for routing. All my equipment is in an unfinished area behind my tank, so I route it all on the studs. For tidying up extra cable, just wrap it and tie it with zip ties.

Also, all my electrical outlets are 36" or higher off the floor level, to keep the electricity away from the water. And I do not have a single piece of electric reef equipment that is not GFCI protected.
