I purchased a CBB a few weeks ago. She has finally been accepted by the tangs who are at least twice her size. I wonder if all the stress she has endured has brought on what I think may be ich.

How infectious is ich? Will it definitely spread to other fish in the tank or if they are healthy -- can they resist it?

thanks for your experience.

Ich is quite the pain in the tail. Once it starts, it can spread to every fish in your tank. I would recommend treating it quickly and soak all your foods in garlic (such as Garlic Xtreme) whether they have ich or not. It'll help boost their immune system. Sometimes a healthy fish can fight it off on their own...it's just a matter of keeping that fish healthy through the time frame. Ich will linger in your tank without a host up to 28 days. Advice is to quarantine and learn as much about each stage of ich as you can.

Appreciate the prompt replies.

I do use garlic with all feedings -- I'll keep an eye on the CBB -- as you know, catching one with a full tank of LR will be a challenge.

Great point, Dawgdude -- I am very conscientious about my WC -- hopefully that will help her recover. She's eating and much better acclimated, i.e. less stress on her

When i had a ick problem a while back i was told to turn the heater up a little can't remember what degree but if i remember right it helped.

Thanks for the links -- these are excellent references.

Looks like ich is a nasty critter. I'm gonna keep my eye on my CBB -- so far there's no scratching or scraping -- maybe it's too early for those signs to show up.
