I have five tanks going:
240 gallon FW species tank: 2 x 40 watt NO Flourescents-80 watts total
265 gallon planted tank: 3 x 250 watt halides-750 watts total
210 gallon reef: 3 x 400 watt halides-1200 watts total
100 gallon reef: 1 x 400 watt halides-400 watts total
60 gallon reef: 1 x 250 watt halide-250 watts total
80 + 750 + 1200 + 400 + 250 = 2680 watts of light!
I just removed the 3 x 250 watt halides from my 265 gallon FW planted tank (now a FW community tank) and replaced with a 2 x 40 watt flourescent strip, so I now have only 2010 wattts of light over my tanks!
This is in a large volume finished basement area of the house, so the heat is not quite as bad as you'd think with all this light.
