15% every 7-10 days weather it needs it or not.

I said no because I joined the twice a year 30% change. just do top off . i do test every week to ensure all is well but nothing other than that :thumbs:

I do bi-weekly on my larger tanks and weekly on the smaller ones, but just because I have so many tanks. The 125g and 4 to 5 small ones(depending on how many babies I have) the next week the 65g and 4-5 smaller ones. 
I'm not sure what I will do when I add the 220g. I think I have to buy another ro/di! :doh:

On 4 of my tanks with corals I do 5 gallons 3 times a week basically cleaning sand bed with siphon. On 4 other tanks I try n do a daily drain of about 5 percent these r my freshies. On all my other tanks about 10 gallons a week. Never had cyano n 20 years my key has always been. Hit the sand bed for regular cleaning. N stock with blue legs

Been doing mine every 2 weeks with good results but my system has been up for awhile! I dont think I would have felt comfortable doing this a few months ago though.
ok this rises another question I have. Have you guys ever mixed your salt mix? As in using one brand and than switching to another? Is that safe for the reef tank or will that through everything off balance and make your tank crash? I'm using Instant Ocean right now and I haven't read too many good things about it. So I was thinking of switching to another brand.
Any suggestions or comments?

Yes, I have switched back and forth with salt mixes. No issues!
I tend to like reef crystals the best, but currently using instant ocean, as I got a good deal on it!
I mix a 32 gal roughneck every 2 weeks and use it for wc and always keep an extra 10 gal for an emergency. I keep a pump to mix it all of the time. I have had 20 gal left of instant ocean and mixed the remainder 12 gal with reef crystals........no problem. Bubba
So I'm curious as to what makes one salt mix better than the other? Do you really see a difference in the health of your life-stock? What makes you guys prefer one over the other? I've never used anything else but Instant Ocean ever since I've starting this hobby about 2 years ago, and its also the only brand my LFS carries.
It has not been long enough since I swapped salt mixes so there are no noticable differences yet for me but Im sure others have seen good/bad changes when switching different mixes.
As far as I know the differences from one mix to another is the amount of things such as calcium, magnesium, ect. However, I'm sure some people know many other ways they differ in quality and such.

I think I read last night on Drs. Foster and Smith that reef crystal has calcium and magnesium in their salt mix if I'm not mistaken. I have a calcium reactor running on my system so would take rise my calcium level? Or will it just balance out because I think If I read right that it had about 420ppm of calcium in the mix which shouldn't affect my levels correct?
Having that said would I still need a salt mix with those trace elements to farther benefit my reef tank or will that have no affect on my tank what so ever and I can just stick with Instant Ocean as it is cheaper
