we use to have a 90 gallon reef with a standard size stand. my wife wanted it a little taller off the ground. so i was seeing how tall some of your stand are. im getting ready to build a stand and wanted some ideas.its going to be for a 120 or a marinelife 90 cube which is 30x30x24

32" from floor to the tank. I've got a low bench in front of it, but I still wish I had built it a bit higher.

40" i like it puts it in your face so you don't have to lean down, and tons of room underneath

48" tall stand, 24" tank, and 16" canopy over 7' tall no bending over to check things out I lo9ve it.

40" to 42" is optimum, depending on how tall you are when it comes to servicing your tank.

Take this test.....

Measure from your armpit to the floor, now deduct the hieght of the tank, that's how tall your stand should be to avoid any frustration factor when something falls to the bottom of the tank.

And I think optimum depends on the height of the tank, but Dakota's test is still valid.

I personally like to look "down at the sand", but not "up at the top of the water". Since I </em>own the tank, I use the height of my eyes as the waterline in the tank, and build the stand accordingly.
