Im taking my tank apart tomorrow to clean it after losing a bunch of fish. Explained on another thread. What i am wondering is can i use bleach to clean the rock and how soon can i put my take back together if i do that?

Thanks

I'm no expert, but I would steer away from bleach, your PH levels will alter, and it attacks slowly if you don't constantly keep an eye on it.

Cook it!

In this heat every thing should be dead in the matter of days. once the rock turns completely white it's dead, wash off and good to go.

Anytime i've cleaned algae off i take a large tote put some water in from the tank take the rock out set on towel one rock at a time scrub under running water. Then put back in tote unless your wanting to nuke the rock. You can boil in a pot on stove if rock will fit. Will kill all bacteria in tank

Rock is a strong absorbent, almost like a sponge. They say if you use a rock in a qt tank the chemicals remain on the rocks even months after it's out of qt water.
