Okay, so... months ago, my red linkia starfish got attacked by my coral banded shrimp and two of his legs were ripped off. I didnt think the little guy would make it and thought I was right when it disappeared a few days later. Well... I moved most of my rock out of my tank on Saturday, but left much of the old setup running.

I basically turned off the sump because there wasnt enough water and left a pump on the display running so that everything would stay alive for the new owner. Apparently I had a large cycle with ammonia. All the small pieces of coral have died and the shrooms look... veeeerrry unhappy. However, true to form, the random hermits i missed made it and so did the coral banded shrimp and the pistol shrimp I couldnt find.

Figured I'd start bathing all the equipment in vinegar today for the new owner and low and behold... there's my little red linkia with two new nubs where the old legs were ripped off!!!!

How he's survived this long I have no idea. That water is easily in the mid 60s and hasnt been running in... well... since saturday afternoon. I know he's still mostly alive, because I picked him up to see if he was alive and then put him next to the glass and he held on.

So... should I leave him in the sump until tomorrow when I can take him to the new tank or move him up to the display? I moved the heater down south and will put a battery operated air pump in the sump if for the best. I imagine he'd do better down there. In fact I'd wager he's only survived because he's in the sump...

That is flat out amazing! It's always fun to find a critter that you thought was gone.

Chuck Norris the Shrimp didn't die! He moved his soul into the Amazing Red Linkia... and is now known as Chuck Norris the Amazing Red Linkia!

Just in case anyone ever doubted this possibility... I present to you...

It makes sense because in nature these things have limbs ripped off of them all the time and they keep on going

well... of course in nature it makes sense... but every other star fish I've ever owned, died after the loss of a limb.
