I am hoping this is only algae. Please ID.

I gotta go, obviously......

I have to work in morning........
I can give full details soon

All read and noted. Thank you all. I am good on the Tech M, I appreciate the offer. Can't put a price on the advice and fellowship.

please pm dave (acroholic) on specific instructions on exactly on how much you need to increase your mag by, and how long you have to hold it there for. make sure you have decent test kits to measure, too.

Thanks Ralph. I remember Dave's thread. I have ELOS kits and some left over Seachem, but I use ELOS. I wanted to confirm the following:
1. Should I remove the carbon while treated with Tech M?
2. Should I remove the Phosguard?
3. Should I continue Mg dosing with my Seachem product (Advantage Magnesiium)
4. My photo period (T5s) is 8 hours - all softies, GSP, and anemones -should maintain the sanme photo period?

I only have 4 small fish in a 55g; the fish are all 4 years old and I have a bare bottom.

Thank you!

Hi Tony,
1. Use your carbon as normal.
2. Use the phosguard as normal.
3. Stop dosing the seachem product while using Tech M. It is not the magnesium that kills the bryopsis, it is some trace in the Tech M that kills the bryopsis. If it were magnesium, you would not need to use Tech M......any magnesium source would work.
4. Keep your normal photoperiod.

Tech m works well but takes time if you can remove the rock then do so soak in 3% h2o2 for a few hours a day is better.
you should still try manual removal using 1/4" hose to help lower the amount of byro in the tank it will release spores around 1/2"

Yes, I will do that. Thank you. It's only on a few pieces of structure rock (no life on it), Some is on my bare bottom too. Should I just leave it?

If you can git it out of the tank git it out dont play with byro it can git bad quickly

Lol, that's the H2O2, plan "E"

Haha
Works great!

It's part of the hobby...it will be fine. I keep an under-stocked 55, with nothing that cost me more that 80 (only 1 item was 8O, most under $25). I have no idea. I added a RBTA last year from what was a very clean system, a GBTA 2 years ago, didn't see the system, but sure it was fine. I really added nothing else for the last 4 years. The algae just appeared a month ago. Doubt it came from anyone's system. Just the change we take :-)

All is dandy so far, except Ca is down to 200. I do dose regularly (at the same rate for 4 years). I use the Seachem Ca and test kit. I did check my test kit with the Seachem control sample and it was accurate. Do I need to boost mt Ca dosing while maintaining elevated Mg levels? My Mg is up to 1650. Lastly, if I perform a water change, should I ensure the Mg level of the new salt water is at least as high as the Mg level in my DT? Sorry for all of the questions.

Thank you and have a great weekend! BTW, the bryopsis is definitely thinning and all tank inhabitants are doing fine (so far).

Thank you, but does elevated Mg put downward pressure on Ca or cause Ca to be more rapidly absorbed by verts?
