Just thought I'd let everyone know that I finally went ahead and ordered my new Tank! :yay:

I'm going with the Marineland 60 Gallon 24"x24"x24" Cube (Custom Bottom Drilled).

I had previously talked to Tim at Keen's Reef about getting this Tank but held off for a bit, but this weekend decided to stop in and finally make the order. While I was there I had the plesure of meeting Dave (Acroholic). Dave recently purchased the exact same tank.

While I was at Keen I went ahead and snagged a Mag 7 to be used as my return Pump.

The best part of the whole thing was seeing my wifes Face when Tim said the Total:eek:, I didn't hear it just handed him the Card but I'm sure Tim and Dave can attest that the look on her face was pretty good..

Luke,
It was a pleassure to meet you and your family yesterday. I thought your wife took it really well...........I'm sure that shell-shocked look will disappear from her face in a couple weeks!:D

These tanks also come with the Marineland overflow kits, which makes them an even better value. I'll post a pic of mine here (after the lights come on) so you can see what you will be getting.

It was $330.

The custom drilling and overflow added $50 to the price. The normal reef ready 60 gallon is $280.

Thanks,
Tim

elFloyd - I will start a Build thread just as soon as get everything together!

JAustin - Alot more than you had to pay down south..LOL!

bclark7169 - Will probably start the build thread once I decided on the stand Design..

Acroholic - Dave Pictures would be great, is the Marineland overflow kit pretty quite? My plans for this tank Involve the Living Room...

Yea...it is you standard oversized Durso type.

Can't wait to see the build thread. You should put a 400w halide over the beast! What are you doing for a sump?

JAustin - Not gonna go Overkill with the 400 Watts.. I'm thinking 250 right now but who knows things may change. Haven't decided on a Sump set-up just yet. I would love to get my hands on one of those 20x20x20 that you guys are able to get down there.

Here is a FTS of my Marineland 30 cube. there are two ORA Platinum Picassos inthere, but they are not visible.

Dave - That's a Picture of your "60 Cube right"... As always your set-up looks great! I can't wait to see those Acans grow in together, it's going to look super nice..

I've been debating the whole Sand vs. Bare Bottom controversy, I'm pretty sure I'll end up going with Sand, due to the fact that I eventually want a Yasha/shrimp pair.

The Plan is an Entirely mixed reef with SPS only in the mid to high areas of the tank with a Zoa Garden along the Bottom. Therefor I know I'm going to need some seriuos flow, and I really don't want to be causing a constant sand storm. Any suggestions on the size of substrate I should use to keep this from happening?

I have the "Special Grade" reef sand, and just added 2 Tunze 6100s for flow. One is running about 1/2 power, the other pulsing between full and half. No sandstorms even with 4000+ GPH of flow in a 90.

I have zoas on the bottom and they are happier than I've seen them, and my SPS up top look great as well. The only things that don't seem to enjoy the flow are my alveopora and ricordeas, but that's probably just a placement issue.

Sorry 'bout that........it is the 60 cube. I have an MP20 on the tank now, and it is turned all the way up...but I use the foam inlet covers on it (protect the anemones), which cuts down on flow a good bit.

You'd be a good candidate for two MP10s. Place them up high, and the SPS will get the brunt of the flow. I'm using Caribsea hawaiian black substrate, which has everything from fine sugar sized particles to small rocks in it.

au01st - Who makes this "Special Grade" Reef sand, I'll have to check it out.

Dave - I'm thinking the 2 MP10's as well, just wish they could talk to each other like the 40's. Question about the Caribsea hawaiian black substrate that your using, do you notice any particles being picked up by your Magnent when cleaning the Glass. The reason I ask is I used a Black sand (can't remember the brand) in my Nano and everytime I even came close to the sand the Magnenet would grab a bunch of stuff and it was almost impossible to get it to come off..

That would be nice, but I'm sure you can find a balance.

The magnetic product is from Nature's Ocean.

The Caribsea Hawiian Black is not magnetic. Been thru that myself.
