:confused2:I have a 90 gal sw tank that has been up and running 4years now. I run a coralife 220 ss. Please no snickering. I did a routine weekly 10 gal water change wednesday. Ever since my skimmer has been producing alot of micro bubbles which are making their way into the dt. The chamber of the skimmer is dense with foam and bubbles more than usual. It really looks like its kicking butt except nothing is collecting in the chamber, no gunk. I broke the skimmer down today and went over all the parts, seems good. I placed it back in the sump and the same problem. I took it out again and replaced the skimmer with another and again micro bubbles everywhere. I haven't done anything different that I can think of. I do not dose anything. I use IO salt and thought maybe a bad batch but this would of happened sooner. Has anyone experienced this sort of thing before?

Did you use ro for the make up watter or a watter treatment if you used a (Wt) with a stress reduser or slime coat it will cause your skimmer to go nuts for a few days
If not I would use this time of foam making to wet skim the tank it will lower your tds of the tank
To help with the bubbles leaving the skimmer you can use a media bag over the outlet to help lower the amount of bubbles leaving it

I use rodi for my water changes. What is really confusing is with all this foam being produced in the chamber and the collection cup nothing has collected in the cup for 2 days now,by now I should of seen quite a bit of gunk.

I'm not familiar with that skimmer, but does it have an airline going to the intake pump? It doesn't take much to clog it even partially which could screw up the normal working.

if you can adjust the watter level raise it you may have more air then watter entering the skimmer causing it to make foam in the body not the neck so it puts the bubbles in the tank
also look in the venturi for white blobs or just soak it in vinager for a day calcium can build up over time
Skimmer bodies like to be dirty there is a bio film that alows it to form the correct bubble size I only clear my bodie1 time a year
The pumps on the other hand like to be clean to work there best I clean mine monthly

Thanks for the responces but I tell you it was a routine water change with premixed rodi and IO salt mixing for 1 week. The water level in the sump and everything else has remained constant. The skimmer is not overflowing just producing many more air bubbles in the chamber and the neck but it doesn't seem to be removing any gunk out of the water column. Then it releases many more air bubbles into the middle chamber to a point where the water looks almost cloudy. I did take the skimmer out and clean it and blow out the lines and the intake pump also. Its definately getting too much air if thats possible. What do you think?

you probably just reset the skimmer, skimmers go through a "break-in" period in which the build up a kind of coat from the water. if that's gone, it could be in the process of building itself back up. Give it time
