Innovative Marine is warrantying my tank as it has some cosmetic blemishes on the top beveled edges.., And as shipping is crazy expensive, they want me to etch void into three panels of the glass and send photos... Also, it IS set up and running..

Anyone done this before?

Whats the best way to do this?

I wouldn't do it until everything was out of the tank. If they insist on it they should be able to tell you a way to do it that will not result in the glass breaking.

I would be interested in maybe purchasing the voided tank for a reasonable discount unless you agreed not to sell it.

Your wife’s diamond will scratch it. If you have a diamond bit it will do the same if your wife doesn’t want to play nice :p

Why not use an etching cream and a stencil to neatly place "void" in the upper or lower corners, so it's less visible? Do it on the outside of the glass, and no need to worry about your livestock. I use this stuff for crafting:

+1 on the above or some sand paper. Also, like @chemaholic said in post #2, ask them the best way to do that.

Every panel of glass has a weak spot where the the lightest tap in the wrong place will crack it. If the tank were empty the dremel or just a hammer would be fine, but with it up and running I'd be weary too.

They told me to use a razor blade...

Unless you’re planning to resell the old tank, which I think is against warranty anyways, ask them can you just break the front panel

Oh. Didn’t know you had already set it up. Water box just asked the front panel be broken when I was filing warranty. I would have been super a sled to have scratched it if it was full. To risky if it cracking

Yeah. Exactly. This etch stuff was perfect.
