I screwed up, pLease help...

I forgot about that. That will help to some extent. When i set up my 120, I thought "what the heck" and it did concentrate it quite a bit but be ready to empty the cup often or it WILL overflow. Don't rely on that only either. It will in time settle out on it's own but that will take time. Follow Charlie's suggestion and get a sock or something mechanical on it as soon as you can and that will draw it out.

Since your grain size varies, you might try shutting down the PH for a little bit and letting the smaller particles settle out of suspension.

lol...yep, found that out too:doh:

Don't forget this isn't my first rodeo it's just the first time on this bull... :D

Now that second line is a nice corollary of bull riders philosophy. I had not heard that second part, about the new bull, before. Thanks. -lol

...and another vote for mechanical filtration. Socks, make-shift socks, or even a TLF reactor with some filter floss would to the trick. Maybe even a PH with a foam block pre-filter would help, so long as you rinsed it very frequently.

You could go find a cheap pool filter like the kind you get with a 10' pool.It has a paper filter that will take it out,but you will have to keep the pumps running so it stays stirred up.

Mechanical filtration as everyone has stated...

You can also add some Seachem Clarity. It's a flocking agent and it will grab the super-fine particles and make the big enough for mechanical filtration to catch them.

Pantyhose aren't fine enough to get all that dusty particulate, and that's the stuff that's clouding the water.

It is going to take a few days....turn the pump off and let things settle... Patience!!!

Then once it has settled, syphon the top layer of the sand:D

I would turn all pumps off let it settle. There will be a fine layer on the top of the sand. You can then Siphon it out. That is what I did for my garden eel tank.

Thanks,
Tim

I know this might seem minor, and it may be, but even though you say it feels soft I am sure it is still abrasive and I would not run the vortech or any other pump unless you had to. While it might never matter why take the chance.

Be careful, if you leave the return pump on and the sump running without a filter sock, you are going to get a lot of settling in the sump as well. That can be a problem if your skimmer is in there and you are moving it around while cleaning it. I did the same on my 210 and ended up draining my sump to get rid of all of the fine sediment in the sump after I put my sand in, now I am a fan of external canister filters to get all the crud out.

I have a filtersock you can have tomorrow when you come and pick up the Berghia. Its used but still good.
