I bought my first fish the other day, a royal gramma. I was so exited that i forgot to check for ich and surprise surprise it has a TON of it. So i set up a 5gl hoding tank with a small heater and a coffe mug to hide in and i have a few questions. First - i have 2 powerheads in my tank and i was wondering if i should put one of them in with the fish, or would it be better without it? Second - i looked everywere and i cant find copper based medication for the life of me (and my fish) so I was wondering if any one out there had some extra copper medication and posibly a copper test kit? My fish and i would be more than gratefull. If any one has any information on ich that i should know please respond. Lives hang in the balance!

I did some reading up online and all the sites i found sayd that nothing other than copper will realy kill ich. Am i misimformed? What type of medication should i be looking for?

I have copper that you can borrow and a test kit and copper remover. It is not the treatment that I would go with but it will work.

As far as the power head. If you are going to treat copper in that tank, then I would not put a power head in there, you will never be able to use it in your normal tank again. Speaking of which, I might have a copper use powerhead that you can borrow too. If you are not going to treat with copper, but some other treatment, then you will want a small powerhead in there.

Do the blue treatment. Having the fish in a hospital tank is already a plus. I had a clown that came back from it.

BTW it was Brandon's suggestion.

The blue tretment is substantially better than anything else I've tried, but it will stain the silicone in your tank.

Ive been doing more reading and this artical,
a> seems to favor hypo salinity as the best method, If there are no objections i will procede with the hypo salinity method - ICH SUCKS!!! ive got a beutiful royal gramma that i cant put in my display and enjoi for 3 WEEKS!!! just beacause of white specks......THIS SUCKS!!!!

Whats the blue treatment?

Ok then ill start looking for "methylene blue" does any one have any? in the meen time ill start the hypo salinity treatment. Would there be any trouble using these two in conjunction?

I got mine at petsmart. It was like $2.00 for a small bottle. This treatment does not need the salinity low or any other thing. (Read the label when you buy it).

too much stress on fish?

I'm in the middle of hypo treatment. It's going well and is easy to do... as long as your tank has a snug lid on it. Before starting I recomment doing a freshwater + Methylene blue dip. Make sure you do large water changes, 30%, weekly.
