For the past week or so I have noticed a thin film of about 50 percent translucent growth on my live rock. The growth is about a centimeter tall and covers most of the exposed rock (only to light as far as I can tell). Some of the tips seem to have bubbles attached and I suspect them to be the oxygen of the algae or bacteria. The speed of growth and uniformity make me lean towards a cyanobacteria, but I havent had too many experiences with this type of thing in many years of reefing (luckily). It does not seem to bother the coral, but it is growing to their base and it concerns me.
I will post pictures later tonight.
I picked up a couple sps frags about a month ago and suspect them as the lovely donor.
