Id?

can anyone help me id this? it is not something i bought and put in the tank. it had to be from the live rock. I've never seen it before last night when I was checking the tank after lights out. the only change I've made lately is that i busted up a large piece of rock a few weeks ago. I know the picture is horrible, will try and get a better one later.

Agree, too blurry to really make a guess. Can you explain its appearance to us?

its got a black tube like feeler, snail of som sort, hides in the rock hole, probably about an inch long, half inch wide not overly rounded shell, the shell has lines of ligbt and dark colors its foot was kind of speckled. ill see if I can get a better picture.

I believe that's exactly what that is, a Nassarius.

thats what i was thinking at first except its feeler looks different than the other snails. Whew! Now i feel lime a paranoid idiot. lol

It's either that or a whelk.

Did you put it there deliberately, or is it a hitchhiker? Whelks are bad. What I see in that last photo, is the soft proboscis, pointed into the air, but below that, at the sand level, I see something else sticking out. That could be the "spear" ... whelks are predatory.

I would have to agree with Jenn. I vote welk. It looks exactly like a spear at sand level.

I've never our a snail like that in my tank, just your typical cuc. I just noticed it the other night. going to have to find the darned thing now.

Edit: what do these eat and where should i be looking for it - sand or rock? can't find it this morning.
