Alright so I've got a used heavily crusted up Red Sea 25-250 Triple Pass Protein Skimmer.I'd love some suggestions on how to clean this bad boy safely for both it and use in my tank looks like mostly salt and dried protein jazz.mild if any calcium build up.
Thanks for any suggestions,
Jason

Use your basic white vinegar. Dilute it out and let it sit. it'll clean up nicely plus it's safe.

Jason, I would recommend white vinigar. I have a half gallon left and a spray bottle if you would like them.

whats a good ratio to use i dont wanna mess this up lol.really completely safe i new for external use and dipping koralia's and stuff but i can just let this bad boy soak for a few days no problem?

on a side note I found out there is only one way to know there is glass in sand and its not a fun way lol.still picking out micro splinters woohoo

ouch, sorry about the splinters... I may need to be corrected but when I clean I normally use 4 water ro water to 1 viniger

I never even measure, just pour some vinegar in, pour some RO/DI in, let it run and overflow all it wants...

Yep. The correct vinegar>water ratio is determined by "how much vinegar do I have left?"

Well I get the jugs from Kroger b/c the label slides completely off and doesn't leave any sticker residue or pieces like other brands. I clean these out and use the for my Ca/ALK/MG (all labeled of course) as well as my top off water for my frag tank, and my 35ppt DIY calibration solution. And the more I have for top offs the less often I have to fill them up (once a week currently) so I use vinegar liberally...as far as chemicals in this hobby go, it's one of the cheapest...

man awesome guys !main thing though this will nuke out all forms of crustiness or just calcium based. I see tons on it knocking out the calcium and coraline nothing on anything else though.

impossible to get to. ok well i wanted to avoid bleach but ill do water then vinegar then bleach if necessary after the first 2 soaks thanks everyone for the ideas!

i know i just hate the stuff period ive done the bleach method plenty for freshwater to clean stuff then just used standard dechlorinator to neutralize
