I just bought a sump and right now i run a xp5 canister. should i turn off the canister when I ad the sump:confused2: ?

you can go either way. If the sump is providing adequate filtration. Whether thats through a filter sock, bio balls, live rock, refugium, skimmer, etc...

IMO I would run the canister for a little while at least after setting up the sump and allow time for it settle. Unless you have xenia, I've never heard any problems with too much filtration.

I would turn the canister into a media chamber. Use it for carbon, etc.

you don't need it, but you can use it for gfo, carbon, etc. Pretty much same as above post.
