Should I let the few bits of Aiptasia in my tank multiply?

OR

Should I get over having a Copperband?

I tend to think if you want one just for that reason, take care of them now before they get out of hand. Copperbands are notorious for doing poorly in captivity. Sure they are all over the place, but mortality is high. I had one and bred aptasia just for the copperband to ensure it was getting it's natural diet. Sure he ate prepared foods, but I wanted to ensure his diet was met. If you like the fish for what it is, other than what it's been known to eat, then I'd say go for it, but dont be upset if it dies....they just tend to do that :( Also....what other fish do you have?? Some fish do not play well with a CB.

All I have is a Maroon Clown and a Cleaner Shrimp right now. I do like the look of the Copperband, but was told not to get one unless I had aiptasia growing in my tank...I am kind of torn.

how many are we talking about? Less than 20? If so, those will be gone in less than 30 minutes with a CBB in the tank. Look into getting some peppermints....cheaper and they do a great job. I had some aptasia popping up in my 12g nano and threw 3 peppermints in, they were all gone by the end of the week. Not sure if Tim still has the deal on shrimp (I got my peppermints from Tim), but worth checking out...saves you money in the long run if it works.

Had 2 in the sand bed. They are now gone...I decided the look of the CB wasnt worth having tentacles all over my tank.

If you want to get a CBB aptasia is good to have(maybe:confused2:). But i have one and he eats frozen mysis all day, everyday. Just make sure that when you go get one ask the LFS or whoever you get it from to please show you that it eats. I got mine from Pure Reef and that is exactly what i did and he loves the mysis and frozen brine.

I've wanted a CB for a long time and have plenty aptasia for him to feast on....BUT....I've been told that my Sohal, Regal and Naso would probably run him to death. I call my Sohal my Kamikaze Fish.....He speeds in and out of the rockwork and enjoys spashing water out of the tank onto anyone nearby.

And....for Peppermint Shrimp....I bought 6, put them in, haven't seen them since....that was a week or two ago. (footnote....my Regal made short work of a Cleaner Shrimp several months ago.....ripped his little shrimpy head off and devoured him in less than one minute of being in the tank, so my Peps may have been a midnight snack while I wasn't watching?!?)

All the CBBs I've seen seem to be delicate, passive little guys. If you've already got a Maroon Clown with established territory in your tank...I hope you pick a particularly gutsy little CBB. :D

I am struggling with the CBB decision as well. I want one!!!
I have recently upgraded to a larger tank and my fish stocking scheme not only includes one...but he's first! All my current live stock still waits in the 75 until the CBB decision is made.

I have no first hand knowledge, but have done a lot of research and yes...they appear to be difficult to keep primarily because of diet.
Some do eat aptasia, but as previously mentioned, one can quickly wipe out all your aptasia... so this is not a good long term strategy for feeding.
Seems the other secret to success in worms. Black worms to be exact. This is a natural food for them in the wild and provides them with all the nutrients they need for long term survival. They NEED worms. I have read that the idea that they can be sustained by PE mysis is fine for a while. Maybe even a couple of years. Its like..yeah..we can survive on donuts alone...for a while. But how healthy will we be.

Thats kind of where I am now.
Who has black worms?
Should I harvest my own?
Are they available locally??
Is a CBB worth all of this??

Sorry for chiming...

I also want a PBT:D

I've only done limited research but from what I have read it is better to get ones for Australia and not the indo-pafic countries. When coming from Australia they are cared for better. I've also heard that they look better too. I believe Warehouse Aquarium can get the Australian variety in. Might be a little more money but IMO would be worth it for the sake of the fish.
