Hey Guys! I've been away for about 6 months getting my new house and things have just started settling down so its time to start building the 29G Nano I bought before I moved. I've started a build thread, over in the Tank Gallery (<span style="color: red;">See Signature</span>), not sure that's where I should have put it so if not Mods please move for me, maybe to the DIY section so even visitors can see it. Anyways, I am planning on going through this step by step so that I can get ideas from all of you.

As of now I think I will be going with a 10G Sump underneth due to the fact, that size fits perfectly inside the stand.

I have already created a 6" Overflow box from a piece of PVC and That is where my questions begin.

Currently the Overflow goes from bottom of the tank, to the top Lip. I want to keep the water level as high as possible so my question is this.

1. Should I cut about a 1/2 inch or so off the top of the overflow or would it be better to cut slits down the overflow a 1/2 inch or so so that it will work as a surface skimmer, and if this is the way how many and how big should they be?

2. When I get the tank drilled (I need places and prices for this) What is the best location for the Hole? Low, Middle, or Higher Up? Also what size Hole would be best?

I'll stop now, and wait for you guys.

I think I "see" what you are doing but not quite sure, I will have to see the pics. If you are doing what I think, cut slits about 1/4" in size. This will HELP keep any snails out of there (although they will go where they want even if it is out of the water to get into the pipe)

Ummm... if you are going to have the tank drilled for an overflow or return, you want to drill at the top. If you are drilling for a closed loop that is different.

Brandon, My signature is the build thread for this tank, there are pics there but i believe you understand what I'm trying to accomplish. Let me know..

If the hole is for a return from your sump it needs to be high because the water level in the tank will drain to the hole level every time the sump return pump turns off. You could add a check valve, but it would likely leak and you would see the great flood of '08. If the hole if for a closed loop you can put it anywhere you want.

Ok Guys maybe I'm confused or maybe I've confused everyone else. The HOLE I'm talking about is the one behind the Overflow that will lead to the sump not the return.

OK This build has ended as quickly as it began. The Glass on the tank seems to be tempered so back to the drawing board.
