Ok, so we are expecting out power to be out for 7-10 days now!!!!

Any advice is appreciated. Temp shouldn't be a problem. Have the tank running on a gen for about 6 hours and then my 2 vortechs on battery backup. Just hoping I don't loose the tank !!!,

I've used a converter in my truck to run my pumps for a couple hours before. Only downfall is the gas being used...

you are in unchartered territory, I believe........

I would borrow a gas generator from someone (larger) that could go for exteneded periods of time, while you have the other one.....Run lights minimally, feed lightly, do water changes frequently....add battery powered air stones from petsmart, walmart...

First I hope you and the family are alright and doing well.

As you know from all the PMs you tank is a big inspiration in my new setup I am putting together and I hope everything works out.

Was the damage bad in Centre? Haven't been there for a few years, but used to virtually live there in the summers.

Have you found many places to even buy gas? My family is having a hard time finding gas stations that have generators for the pumps. I hope everything is going as well as possible for you.

I am sure as long as you can give the tank flow for a couple hours a day and maybe toss in a air stone to keep the top of your water moving everything should be okay.

Brandon...if we need to make you some water let us know...got 30 gallons ready if or when you need it. Can be RO or Salinity premixed. Will bring it to you...just say the word.

If there are any bait shops around they should have battery operated air pumps.
If they don't carry them or are not open I only have one but I'll drop it in the mail for ya. Just send me a pm

I am feeling your pain. I am also with out power until wed if im lucky monday. My tanks was a 12g nano and 2 10g nano. I just broke em down and took em to beccamc10 to watch until I get power back. It was a pain but I had no way yo regulate temps or move the water for air

Free. Thanks.. but I have enough water stored up to get me through.

db.. I have to cross the state line to get gas. no where can ring up your purchase.. everything is locked down

cr500.. the damage was really minimal in Centre. Everywhere else really got hit hard though.

LiveRock.. Thanks, I believe I can get through it. And, yes, we are all ok thanks for asking

mystery.. the generator I have will run all day.. i'm just counting on the battery backup for the vort pumps to carry me through the night. since we aren't staying on site (no power or water with 2 kids) we aren't leaving the gen going at night. I'm afraid someone would run off with it.

I'll try n get some pics and updates when i get back to check on things around lunch today.

Sounds like you have a good plan. Are you able to run you lights for a few hours during the day? With the generator, you have a great shot at pulling through....without it, this would be another cautionary tale on why to own one. Try to make sure one of the vortechs is towards the top. When they get to far down, they don't aerate the tank as well. I read about a crash on RC where the tank had 3 backup vortechs, all low, and the tank crashed due to lack of aeration.

Good Luck!

just got back from checking on things. so far I've only lost one fish, a brown tang, and no corals.

the temp had dropped a little over night to 69, but it wasn't a sudden plunge so everything appears ok.

the corals are doing very well.

the only issue is CYANO~~~ BANG its everywhere in the reduced flow now.

Some power has been restored to the area, just not us. Again, the generator only runs from around lunch to dark, because it isn't mine and im not about to leave it out at night with no one there.

hopefully power will be back on AT LEAST within a few days... they said 10 days at first, but things are moving quicker now I think.

After this is all over the cyano is my primary target of elimination. I've got to get rid of that monkey some how.

SOOOOO. ... the tank isn't nuked yet. Fish are ok minus one. corals seem like nothing much is going on actually (i think they are enjoying the few days of reduced light).

I'll update next chance I get.

man.....good luck. I'm really hoping you get some power back soon. I absolutely love your tank. The corals look incredible. Keep us posted

Try wrapping a comforter or a sleeping bag around the tank. It will Insulate it at night, and hopefulle reduce the temp drop.

great news. the power came back up around midnight last night! Hopefully it will say on. So far the aquarium loss has only been 1 single fish and a cyano outbreak.

i can say disasters like this put things into perspective. tanks, fish, corals are fun, but the important things are people. im thankful no one i know was hurt during these terrible storms.

Glad your power got back on. And I have to agree, I went to rainsville, Al all day yesterday to help out and give away a truck load of clothes. It was heartbreaking seeing little kids running around playing in dirty clothes because what they have on is all they have. I was really happy seeing so many others helping though, I know that town will need it.

i work at a church in Centre, so we are plugged into the efforts... i agree... it is astounding. there are literally bare cement pads where houses once were.

if you are some one who believes in prayer these folks really need it.
