i have a
Instant Ocean SeaClone Protein Skimmer

and everytime i turn the air valve to make the bubbles it is letting a lot of the micro bubbles run thew and discharge into my tank
i have heard the it wont hurt my corals or fish. but it is ugly :yuk: to look at the tank with all the little bubbles getting blowen around.
i have tried to put a small piece of foam were the water comes out but it backs up the skimmer and overflows. i have tried foam inside it were the water comes out still little bubbles please help

I am no expert but, from everything I have read, it will not make foam right off the bat if it is brand new. Hope someone corrects me if I am wrong but, I think you should cut down on the air intake until the micro bubble go away even if it isn't making foam. Then give it a good week or two to break in.

The other thing is where did you put it in your sump? You should have a bubble trap between the skimmer compartment and the return pump. No matter what, you will have bubbles from the skimmer and you want to get them out before it gets to your return pump.

The last nano tank I had with a skimmer like that, it did the same thing. So, I pretty sure that all of them do that. My current setup has a reef octopus sump skimmer and it releases micro bubbles.

will thats what i figured no way to stop it i forgot to say its a hang on skimmer as my tank is not drilled
and btw i had my tank running for over a year the had a really bad out brake of something and it wiped out all my fish
could not figure out what was going on so aaron from nemo aquraium came out to my house and we redone the tank water about 3 weeks ago
so might not need it right now but how would i know when to turn it on and let it run

If i'm right, It will have have micro bubbles flow out from it. I don't know any protein skimmer that doesn't have some.

I would leave it run all the time needed or not. I suspect there is a way to keep the bubbles down though. Can't imagine they would consider it an adequate design if there were not some way to curb the problem. Wish I could be more help.

I've got one on my 16g. Open the valve 3/4 turn and let 'r rip. Lose the foam pieces, including the one on the intake. Micro bubbles can be managed by placing a spacer between the skimmer body and the tank. There is a small area that has a flat square projection that sets the skimmer body more or less vertical. Lean the top in towards the tank and the bubbles should minimize.
If you can make a sump, these cheap skimmers really start to work if you run the water up to the black collar where the outlet is. I've been getting a skimmate cup full in 12 hours on a curing tank without running the air adjuster.

Ah, well it may need to be broken in, i know when i first put mine on my tank it made bubbles for a while. Skimmers do that sometimes :l

Unfortunately, that skimmer is about as low-end as you can go. It won't work very well, and it will leak eventually. Even if you are able to dial it in, it won't perform as well as it should.

For a few dollars more than what those retail for, you can get a quality skimmer. I recommend the Reef Octopus HOB.

This is what im running for a HOB, very good!

I have one for now. I have read that you can mod it to get better performance. It's better than nothing. I had it on the DT and it ran for almost 3 weeks before I got it to work. It has to get a slime or film first and it finally started working real good. I moved it to my remote sump because I did not want all the extra micro bubbles in the DT. It seems to have to be dialed in differently when it’s in the sump. IDK why guess it has to do with external pressure.
When I had it in the DT it would cover all the LR with bubbles and the PH would blow them everywhere. Most of the ones I see used at an old school LFS or at peoples houses they are in the corner away from everything this tends to work better because the bubbles rise and pop befre getting blown everywhere but mine was in the middle of the tank. I had it in the sump but the large filter sock and PS would not fit in my sump. I added a remote sump to add another PS but did not get it so I just moved the one.
One thing I did do was change the way that the water enters the remote sump from the PS. I added two 1-1/4” 45* pvc elbows and a short nipple. This changed the exit water and added more surface contact and is removing most of the bubbles and no water falling noise.
