It seems, everyone wants pairs of clowns. why is that? i'm not doubting it. i just wanna know more about why pairing clownfish fascinates people? or pairing other fishes? or what is it like to have a shrimp and fish pair?

please explain. I never had a pair so i really don't know.

There is nothing wrong with having one clownfish. The facination with having a pair is just to watch the interaction between them and with clowns you can identify the sex and the readily breed in our tanks so even if you don't want to raise them it is still fun to watch the process.

Same with a shrimp and goby, it's just fun to watch them together if they form a symbiotic relationship with the shrimp providing the daily upkeep of the hole they sleep in and the goby providing some security.

clowns have a TON of personality.. whenever my face is close to the glass.. both of mine are RIGHT in front of me..

they're VERY curious fish (which makes for enjoyable viewing)..

I've got 3 tangs also, and although they're beautiful.. they always hide when I'm close to the glass.. gorgeous.. but not very fun to watch up close..

why have ONE .. when you can have TWO fish that are fun to watch..

why have one? haha. b/c i want one of those platinums one day. and i don't wanna pay for two!

look at it this way... if you have two.. they could spawn, you could raise them and sell them...

they'd pay for their selves 3X over on the first batch...

I've got a goby/shrimp pair, and I have to say, I liked the goby more on his own. Since I put the shrimp in, the goby stays hidden much more, and I rarely see the shrimp. Plus the shrimp is constantly moving sand and covering up anything laying on the sand. I can't just set frags on the sand to acclimate anymore. I thought I'd enjoy seeing the symbiotic relationship, but it isn't hasn't worked out for me that way.

and i thought that even when they spawn, it's too hard to raise the fry. unless u have a special setup.

I want to get a pair of clowns because I'd like to raise a batch as an experiment with my kids. I think it will be a fun/interesting project.

I had a clownfish by itself for about 6 months and it mostly stayed in one area in the tank. After I bought another it just came alive. Both fish are all over the tank and always together.

if that's the case, then i can see why i can get two clowns. my last clown stayed in one spot of the tank and i gave him away.

I had 3 up until I got home, cant find the little one anywhere....and I looked everywhere I could get to to try and find him. sump, sock, overflows, floor behind tank....nothing, Im sad..

I have three clowns,a true,a misbar, and a naked.I got them all at different times! They have not paired(probably cause they are diff?).All three fish swim all over the tank and are very friendly.I don't have a pair but love to watch them, they love to see me and will come to me every time.
