Is our leather dying?

So the leather has not been looking too hot for that past 5 days. Friday we noticed that it looked like something has been eating on it and now it just looks awful and our bubble is refusing to open. Does it look like we need to get the leather out of our system? We need help on this. Any advise would be much appreciated.

This is the leather last night, looks no better this am.... I think we might be heading down to aquarium warehouse for some input.

It doesn't look dead... It may just be about to slough....

Mine closed up and sulked like that for about a week last month, now it's open and happy again.

Can't see where it's been eaten? Can you circle it or get a closer pic?

I had one close up for almost a month before and then come back larger than before it closed

Went to warehouse aquarium, porter suggested we give the leather more water flow, plus our ph has always seemed a bit off so we are gonna work on that.so yea I guess the leather is just unhappy right now with the flow. We shall see..

I don't think it is unhappy at all. Leathers do that regularly. When leathers die, they typically turn dark brown and start melting away.

Thanks for the info, we were wondering about what the coloration would be. The little guy is looking better this morning but there is still torn flesh at his base. We r keeping him clean and adding in buffer for the first time (dooh) and gonna see how it goes. After a very informative chat w Porter from the warehouse ( I took notes) we feel better and are looking to put on a skimmer this week. Hoping that this will fix the blah factor.

Porter definitely knows his stuff so good source to use!
