Is there any risk in doing to many (much) water change?

I've found that many of the salts are extra loaded with stuff so when you do a 30% water change, it's very unlikely your mag/calc/alk levels are the same as in your tank. I change 15 gallons on a 110 every week and I still have one coral that freaks out nearly everytime and exudes filaments in several places (sps toxic tort). Just salinity and temp imo aren't enough matching for large water changes.

I think that there are different strokes for different folks. Way too many variables for a conclusive rule-

Do what works for you.

In the last year and a half, I've missed maybe 2 times of not doing 30% to 40% weekly water changes, and I have never had any issue, and my tank has never looked better nor has had more growth on SPS corals.......

The "key" is matching the salinity & temp, and using a salt that will match your Alk (PH)....Salinity matches each batch perfectly.

I think the problem a lot of new members in the hobby has is not testing the fresh mixed salt water and adding what ever it needs to match your system. I use to assume if I mixed fresh saltwater I was good to go. Now that I test fresh mixed water I see the numbers aren't always correct.

Wondering with Rich. That was the biggest chalice I have seen. Would love to have a piece if any is left.

We have frags of it that were in the other system, and unaffected by the "meltdown".
