Is this a bristleworm, or something more sinister?

That was a Eunicid worm.

You were wise to get rid of it before http://www.oregonreef.com/sub_worm.htm">this happened</a>.

They are fairly uncommon but I've seen a few over the years.

I've been watching the tank more at night and early morning and haven't seen anything else weird yet.. hope it stays that way!

Omg, I'd give up reefing without a doubt!!

I remember when it happened. Steve posted a thread on TRT that said something like "Caught a 6-FOOT worm last night."

I remember thinking, "Yeah, and I pulled a 2-foot sliver out of my finger the other day." I truly thought it was hyperbole - until I saw the pictures.

Granted, he had a massive tank, and the worm grew over a long period of time - but still...

I've seen a handful of Eunicids over the years, they are very few and far between, but they do manage to hitch a ride into a tank periodically.

I think the OP's worm is of the same, or very similar variety.

im missing my red scooter blenny, first i thought it may of been my pistol shrimp but not sure... i did see a large worm coming from the bottom of some LR. how did u catch it?

Pure luck.... it was in the morning, lights were off, and I just happened to see him and he was out in the open. I easily just grabbed him with long tweezers.
