Is this Aptasia?

24 hrs? Then he has not gotten comfy enough to worry about being hungry. Give it a week. If you can reach them then yes nuke them first

I'm dealing with aiptasia since today. Added a rock with a couple of them on it. From what I can see, there are only 2 of them. Injecting lemon juice of some kind into them tomorrow. Tell you how it goes.

Do a 5gal water change and quaranteen the rock in a 5g bucket with that water with flow and a heater or simply an airstone and heater. Zap the stuff there seperately until it is gone.

In my case, the rock they are on is easily removable. I have to do a water change today anyway so I will put it in a pail with some of the waste water and glue it in there. After it sets up I will move it back to the display.

I have two peppermints and they haven't touched the few that I have. From what I've seen on here, it's hit or miss with peppermints.

When I did my tank maint. yesterday I pulled the rock with aptasia and scolly and used the super glue method. I was so coverred up with other things that needed doing that I didn't really get a chance to check back but will update when the lights come on today.

+1. Can't beat the price of boiling water either. If you have a rock with one, or more for that matter, that has nothing else of value you can just dip the rock where the nem is into a pot of boiling water. did that on the first couple I found. Used a syringe with boiling water on another, and aptasia-x on the last couple about 5-6 months ago. All worked.

I have some Aptasia X. Not long after starting my tank I saw one sprout out of a rock. Hit it one time and it never came back again. The one in this picture is on the side of a rock that has a Bleeding Apple Scoly on it. That is the coral you can see on the edge of the pick. I zoomed in so it appears bigger than it really is. There is another one on the front of the rock that is even smaller.

Couple of questions before I attempt this:
1. Where this is located will make it difficult to get a good approach to the Aptasia, expecially the smaller one. I addition, when the scoly is fully open, it overhangs them both. If I pick the rock up, I am thinking the scoly will retract making it easier. But, will that also make the Aptasia retract as well?
2. Because the scoly is so close, do I risk damage to it if some of the Aptasia X hits it?

That is the nice thing about Aptasia X. If you let a tiny bit out before you get near the Aptasia, it will actually think it is food and latch on to the needle. Very easy and it says out.

If you use Joes or hot water...ect, you have to inject the Aptasia in the stalk. Hard if it can retract itself back into a rock.

Again... just come near the aptasia and it will attach to the needle. Only catch is to be careful around other sps. (ie: don't go crazy with X and get it all over the place)

I like Aptasia X because I want to watch the little buggers DIE!!!!! But in this case, I didn't want to see my Bleeding Apple Scoly die so the glue was a great solution. :-)

I used white cider vinegar and so far so good. I have a few more small ones that I missed yesterday and will take care of them today.

I have one coming up dead in the middle of a bunch of zoa. What;s the best method here? I've used Super Glue in other places as well as X. I've read X might harm the zoa. Not sure if Super Glue is the way to go or hot water, etc.

This time around, I used the locktight version of Super Glue. Won't buy anything but that from here on out. Why, so much easier to apply. Just screw the lid down tight and squeeze the sides a bit. With supper glue, the entire container collapses and glue is everywhere.

If I could return my "apparently defective" peppermint shrimp all would be good!!!!!

I got 10 on the way should be here tomorrow, hopefully they will take care of my little problem for me. There pretty cheap depending on where ya get em.

UPDATE: I had a small Aptasia plant itself in the middle of a small bunch of zoa. I took it out of the DT and placed it a small container and waited for the little sucker to show itself then I blasted it like a Marine taking out Bin Laden with a precise hit using a small dot of Super Glue Gel!!!:headbang:

It took a couple days for all the heads that surrounded the spot of glue to adjust, but today they are all fully extended! Now I sit and wait for the next Aptasia to show itself!

DEATH TO YOU ALL!!!!!

I hate to tell you this but it was the Navy Seals who got Bin-Fish-Food. But I understand your sentiment. LOL
