SO I have been cycling a new 30gallon tank for about a month..the only thing in it is an emerald crab and some snails and some live rock and sand...values are all good...SG 1.025-1.026...I have a TON of pods in there....my plan was to cycle the tank another month then introduce a fish but because of all the pods I went to Rit's this weekend and found a royal gramma i liked and decided he could help with the overload in pod population..
i brought him hom saturday ...he has been swimming around..eating readily, diving all around the rocks etc etc..today i noticed these little white spots on him...it half looks like all the pinpoint pods that are everywhere in the tank including the glass but im afraid its ick
what do you guys think?...if it IS ick do u have any recs in treating it..i dont have a quarantine tank right now...is this tank ruined for future fish..im kinda freaking out :)

i do have focus as well...its only been eating flakes...i fed already today..should i feed again with the meds mixed in or wait until tomorrow...can i put it in the display tank?...do i need to worry about future fish?

hes already in the display of the new tank...i dont have a QT right now..so can i put these meds in the display tank and if so do i need to worry about that..how long til i put anymore fish in afetr the treatment?

thanks man, going to mix the meds now....the metronidazole says u can put one scoop per 10 gallons of water or mix with food 1 scoop per tablespoon..should i just do the water method?

well i treated with metronidazole and focus in the food last night and miraculously all the spots are gone this morning...i will continue to treat but is it possible the ich could go away this quickly..or would it have been something else

It didnt go away, its likely just that stage of the Ich life cycle. You'll know you're free of it when then there have been no signs for 6-8 weeks.

It is more likely that you happened to medicate as the ich reached the next phase of its life cycle (where it drops off of the host animal). IMO a lot of people think they've "cured" ich when this happens.

so the medication says treat for 5-6 days with every feeding..should i treat longer than that?...continue with food or just treat water?

I would get rid of the fish and leave the tank fishless for six weeks after bumping up the temp into the low 80's at the very least. Raising the temp will accelerate the life cycle. Ich needs a host at some point to complete its life cycle. Without a fish to complete it it will all perish. Even with meds there is a good likelihood ich will still remain if a host is present. Just like bacteria in your mouth. It's always there but rarely presents a problem unless you have a weakened immune system.
You can seem ich free, add a new stressed out fish fresh off a hard journey around the world, and BOOM! You have a perfect host for an outbreak in the tank.

I just successfully battled ich, go buy some frozen brine shrimp mix the metro and focus together with some garlic gaurd. You should see results within a day, but should continue to feed until you see the spots completely gone for a week! Do not even try moving the fish!!!!!! You are only going to cause more stress which will make it worse!
Good Luck!
