Its official - Im on myreef 2.0!!

Well, finally pulled the trigger out of necessity. My SL2 got water in it and the new one I ordered was already flashed to 2.0 so I had to take the rest of my system to 2.0.

Ill tell ya, it wasnt as difficult as everyone made it seem. The on screen prompts basically tell you what to do. The whole process took me about an hour. I flashed each module individually and then the head unit. Then I used the myreef 2.0 program to re-program everything from my laptop vs the head unit.

I still need to set up my alarms and timers and such but the rest is done. The head unit has a new look to it and so does the Net module login page (totally seperate from myreef) once you update it. and it shows the names of each outlet that I put in rather than just saying channel 1,2,3 etc...

Gary, I am still using v1.12. I still have the RKE on the table after doing initial programming... so what's the "Cliff's Notes" version of what is involved in the upgrade? I assume I'd have to get a new SID if I understood what I read correctly. Otherwise, is it basically flashing every component to the new firmware?
Also, FWIW I am not (yet) using MyReef.

I upgraded my RKE to MyReef three days ago. It is not bad as long as you follow the instructions on the DA Website exactly. A couple gray areas: disconnect every BUS Cable you have. Probes and switches can stay plugged in. All PC4s have to be turned of or the myreef program doesn't recognize them.

Barry, my SID is updated, and I was planing on going by Aquasmith this afternoon. I could stop by.

Ha! I still need it Jeff - You have to be connected with the SID and your system to access your sytem in myreef and I need to give Geoff's back soon. Just bring to the frag swap!

Step one - Get a V2 SID
2. install myreef 2.0 to your cpu (if you already have you need to update to build 72 by deleting some files in your DA folder and reinstall)
3. Startup myreef 2.0 and plug in your SID
4. Update the SID if needed (it tells you if it needs it)
5. One by one, update your modules and PC4's
6. Update the head unit
7. Dave - factory reset right? I didnt but have some issues to be explained below
8. Put it all back together and plug in your SID to an open port of teh system
9. Program away from your cpu

(I suggest you do your own research on the DA site, in case I left a step out..)

Its much more user friendly now, may take a minute to get your bearings.

Now....Mine shows I have 28 modules connected, I only have 7 or 8. This makes things confusing for me as I need to figure out how to make them go away. I think this is where the factory reset on the headunit comes in...

The headunit itself is much more appealing and easy to understand, alot more options too, even daylight and nightlight display screen brightness settings. Not sure what storm mode does yet...

I also have an issue with the RKM-NET 2.0 webpage - the homescreen doesnt show me any data....still trying to figure that one out.

Yup, factory defaults reset after all modules are updated and hooked up, which means you have to reprogram everything after you are done with the update.

Update the head unit first, according to the DA instructions.

And Storm Mode is for AI LEDs only.

Thanks Gary. As I explained to Dave earlier, I should have phrased my question better... I'm familiar with how to update/flash DA stuff, but I was more interested in what is different/more usable after the update. Not the glossy brochure version, but a real world explanation of what you can gain.

I was about to swap my RKL for my RKE (since I've programmed and labeled everything, and all I need to do is unplug my equipment from my current PC4s and plug it in my new ones).

If there is a compelling reason, I'll wait to trade systems out. If not, I'll probably go ahead and do it, and then do the upgrade when it comes off of the 90 and gets moved to the 210. I'll still have the RKL around as a backup.

I did this last, I didnt see that instruction until after I already did it. Should I just go thru the entire process over again (hu first, then all modules) or will the factory reset take care of it?

Sorry Barry! I havent had a chance to play with it and figure out all the differences. I will say that after having programmed with both the old and the 2.0 I would go 2.0 hands down.

I am going to reset today and start from scratch so I may know more later. I plan to figure out today if you can control your modules via the NET login vs. being direct connected to myreef. I have been told you can and that alone is worth it. There is an option in the menu to turn on and off remote controlling via myreef and NET seperately.

reading posts like this scare the he LL out of me about getting a RKL for the kitchen system...

any piece of electrical equipment that you've got to upgrade using a specific process worries me...

You are probably OK. I don't see why it would make a difference. They probably have you update the head unit first so in case there is a problem with it, you don't have a bunch of updated modules that will not work with the head unit.

You might call DA and ask if new RKL systems are being shipped with Myreef installed. Buy it through the DA Store and it probably is. Then you don't have to do anything. Updating to myreef really is not a biggie.

I got everything all fixed up and working great. just needed to do teh factory reset. Reprogramming was a breeze, still need to set up my alarms and redundancies though.

Its a new kind of lazy too.....Turning on/off pumps, lights, powerheads, basically controlling the whole system from the couch just because I can.

Im not an Apex user, never have been. I merely discovered DA first so I went with them (im kinda impulsive..lol). I have been constantly under impressed with DA in terms of support. Customer service is decent but actual support in terms of explaining things is challenging for them. It was difficult for me to set up for the very first time but now its so simple for anyone.

That being said I am very pleased with the myreef 2.0 and Net webpage updates they did, and the cosmetic update to the head unit graphics via the update (free btw). They also got the salinity probe issue fixed and should be shipping me a replacement next week.

Im sure Apex users will chime in, Apex makes a great controller - I havent heard much negative about them and I hear their customer service is one of the best.

I have been running my RKL a year and was ready to upgrade the head unit to RKE but it appears the new 2.01 will do all I want. hoping to here success stories quick as I want to change ove this week. Oh by the way hello

The RKL will do most of what the RKE will do, just limited to four modules. I assume that if the RKL isn't compatible with MyReef, it will be in the future.

And welcome! Since you've only been here about four years longer than me... LOL

The RKL is a great unit. I started with one. But in a reef tank, if you decide you want to start using more advanced features, it can get limited with a 4 module capacity. Fortunately, I have FW tanks as well, and the RKL, a PC4 and an SL1 is pretty much an ideal setup for a FW tank, as all you have is usually a filter, a light and a heater. And unless you want to monitor pH, then you don't even need an SL1. I have my RKL on a 265 FW tank now and it is perfect. Love the standby mode for feeding.
