Step 1 buy a house with way too many wetbars thinking... a fish tank would look great there.

How much tank do you think would fit in there?

Exactly this much. Don't forget to reinforce the floor.

What happened to step 4?
Go to Europe, Start a family, build a nursery. Fast forward a year with a blight on one side of the living room. Its okay the Christmas tree will fit there.

Don't forget to leave an empty tank in your living room while the cabinet sits in your garage for six weeks until you muster the manpower to get it through your backyard up to the back deck and through your French doors because it doesn't fit through regular doors.

It's okay you can park your car in the driveway.

Step 6
Feel the power, full sine wave UPS. Hey, Fry's was across the street from my LFS.
Cable management to follow.
I promise.

Step 7 maybe?
This part I'm really excited about. Apex controller and Rodi filter mounted.
Okay Neptune, you can just have all my money because that DOS looks really nice and I can live off Ramen.

Thanks, I've been sidetracked with a saltwater mixing station lately. I think I have that all planned out but I also need to figure out what I'm doing for my sump. I like the idea of repurposing a used tank (for fiscal reasons) but haven't found a good price/ dimension combination yet. And the hinged top to my cabinet doesn't fit right on my tank (too big... built to order so go figure) so I guess I need to drill some extra wood onto it and extend its interior lip. It's a 2 person job getting it on and off so i have to wait for the one day a week my buddy is off work at the same time to borrow his strength

Nice... coming along and stepping forward! It will be some bumps, and congratulations with the newest family member!
Btw, I was laughing the more I was reading the way you've narrated your build thread hahaha!

We have a sump tank. Thanks to o0o_The_Mutt_o0o! Now just have to saw off that beautiful top and add baffles and stuff.
So much easier on paper: socks and rocks, under, over, protein skimmer, over, split flow to fuge and return pump.

Auto water change lines draw from the starting line and replenish to the return area.
Probes for the apex mount in the same area. Heaters in the skimmer section maybe?

Removing the lid. Pretty much have to to install the baffles anyway.

Painted the back of the tank, got a couple lights and powerheads. The ecotech website says 2 mp40s should meet my needs. They seem smart so I'll go with it. I am excited to play with those lights.
