I know this brand used to be respected but I dont' seem to hear anybody talk about them now. Does anybody still use Iwaki and if so.....how do you feel about them?

Long lasting pumps. The one on the restaurant tank I can't bring myself to take off because it runs so nicely even though it is to big

Smothie....would you consider it quiet? This tank will be in my office and I don't need any more background noise than what I'm going to have with "running water".

Smaller ones are. Look into the blueline pumps on MRC. Now those are some quiet return pumps

I use a MD70 to push water from my basement to my 120 upstairs (14 ft head). My calcium reactor has a WMD20 and a WMD40 runs my skimmer and other odds and ends. I purchased the 40 used on Ebay 7 years ago and it has been in use 24/7 since. Never had a problem with any of them. I definitely wouldn't consider it a quiet pump but they are super reliable. The MD (Japanese) motors seem to run a tad quieter and cooler than the WMD (American) versions. Get a Reeflo if you need the HP but want a quieter pump.

The cheif engineer from Iwaki started his own company: Panworld (Blueline)

The blueline pumps are cheaper, dead quiet and same specs as the iwaki

That's good info. Somebody else had mentioned blueline. I'll check those out and see what I can find. I've found some Iwaki's on eBay at very reasonable prices (Japanese motors) so I'm watching those for now.

the engineer at Iwaki started panworld... blueline is actually a re-label panworld pump...
(I think the model numbers are different for BL than they are for PW)

I've got a BL pump and I like it, it's a little loud to me, but I've got it hard plumbed directly to my acrylic sump and I think the noise is actually the sump picking up transfer of vibration..
If you plumb a section of flexible hose between the return and your sump it should do away with the problem.
