I hooked this up last week not using it yet. I was testing it I noticed a couple of times when I lifted the float switch the relay did not kick off instantly. I noticed when. I let it run for a few seconds and then lifted the float it kicked off more accuratly.

Is this normal. The thought of a auto top off controller not kicking off like it should is not good

Is the float going bad or the unit iitself or is this normal

this is normal when you are tinkering with them. when they are setup on your system (much bigger scale and time accurate than what you are prob demoing) it will seem to work much more effective. Although you need to regularly clean your float switches as they will eventually fail for one reason or another. That is why it is good to have a backup float or a different technology for (laser eye) to have a backup. redundancy is key

It only came with one float switch I guess I will order a new one and set the second one up as a back up

if you bought it direct from a lfs or online vendor I would contact them or jbj bc they usually come with 2 floats each, I would not run with just one for too long

The float switches usually have magnets that move in relation to the float, or at least mine does. If you move the float too fast it will sometimes not function properly. I had the same issue when testing mine. If you move it slowly, you will probably find that it is more consistent. FWIW, it's hard to move it at the same pace as your change in water level. What I did was hook it up and only fill the reservoir with enough water to function but not overflow the sump. Then I monitored for a week.

Ok that's good to know ima try it out tonight and monitor it over the next couple of weeks before I can add 2nd float

You sound knowledgeable about these JBJ top off's. Mine quit turning on my pump. I have tested with other pumps and it wont turn anything on. I cleaned my float good, but still no go. The pump light comes on, looks good.

Any ideas.... thanks in advance

I would say the relay is bad? Just a guess or a short from the relay to the light

How old is the unit?

Did you purchase it second hand?

The biggest concern I would have is contacting jbj first to see what kind of warrenty they have?

It really just depends on what is wrong with it to be honest I've never opened one up before you might be able to Google the topic and find some answers.

Maybe someone else on here is knowledgeable enough to repair it or have more info.

I wouldn't want you to catch your house on fire or flood your tank
