Joes Juice - how much is too much?

I guess how often is too often as well...

I just spent about 45 minutes nuking aptaisias with Joe's Juice. There's still some tiny critters in there, but I'll get those in due time, since the syringe likes to stop up pretty often.

So... how long should I wait until I attack the tank again?

Kiling aptaisia is like pulling english ivy from your garden. You get a percentage, but never all of it at once. You wait until you see them again and hit them again with it.

I had a tendency to OD the anemone on it. You really don't need a lot. Try to be gentle with the plunger finger and it will last longer. IT chunks up a lot and blocks the appication tip on me as well.

IME, the main thing to look out for is don't let the Joe's Juice drop onto any desireable corals, as it kills what it falls on. Good idea to stop flow thru the tank while you use it. Only takes a couple minutes for the JJ to work. Before you restart your pumps, blow any JJ sitting in clumps behind the reef with a baster or your hand so it doesn't get blown onto good corals when the water starts to flow.

You can also try peppermint shrimp to control. Some folks have success with them, and some don't.

We use Aiptasia-X now. Runs circles around Joe's Juice. You don't need as much, and it settles better in the desired locations.

Turn the pumps off for about 20 minutes while you do it too.

I'd use common sense with any of those products - or home remedies. Too much of anything isn't good.

Surely you jest! My one-ever majano was hit with lime/kalk paste no less than five days in a row... springs back up like it just needed a nap. Finally I superglued it into a little tomb, and problem gone.

Get you some true peppermints. I had a few stalks of aiptasia on my first pieces of live rock, got some true peppermints, and they've been in my tank going on about a year now, and I never see any aiptasia since the first bits (knock on wood) and have never used juice/paste/lime/whatever.

Nice natural way to handle the situation, but you'll have to make sure they aren't getting any bits of food when you feed the fish. They'll figure out soon enough that the aiptasia are tasty.

I'm using pickling lime, not store-bought kalk. And yes, it nukes aiptasia really well. Majanos close up for a day or so and pop right back up. I'll believe that it works in some cases, but IME lime doesn't beat majano.

Cool! Thanks for the advice... the pickling lime has been a thought for quite a while, and I can probably use the same syringe as Joe's Juice if I understand it properly.

I use Joe's Juice syringe for applying kalk paste to pest anenomes- it's perfect for it.
