I have read on the container that you must mix and then take the middle layer out after a few hours and use that to drip in your tank... are they for real? what do I look like? an LFS with all the time in the world? Who does this? And am I in danger of something if I don't take out the middle layer and just drip the whole thing? I mean seriously... what is this, chemistry lab?

The only part you don't want is the solids that settle to the bottom of the container and a thin crust that forms on the top. The 98% that is between these two thin layers is good to use. It is very easy.
