Keeping used CA reactor media?

I have a used reactor that I bought which had been a CA reactor, and it's full of coarse media. I'm going to turn the reactor into a sulfur denitrator, and I'd like to keep the media for when I finish my CA reactor. I don't know its age or anything, but I'd like to put it away for later.

What's the best action? Freshwater rinse? Bleach/sterilize?

How long was the set sitting idle? If it was being used I don't see the purpose of bleaching if it was currently being used

You can use some the media in the Sulfur denitrator. Most Sulfur denitrators have a 1:2 or 1:3 ratio of sulfur media to calcium media in them. Sulfur goes on the bottom, then a sponge separator, then the calcium media on top. I have a couple Midwest Aquatics denitrators, and they are set up this way.

That's actually my plan, Dave, as my CA reactor has finer media. I have NO idea how long this reactor was idle, so I have to assume the worst out of caution.

You say that now that it is in bleach water.... :)

No big deal; I still have to source a recirc pump for the SDN anyway before I can put it in use. Speaking of which, the DIY threads typically use a MaxiJet, which I'm not really excited about using externally. What are you using on yours, Dave?

I use a ball valved feed off my PVC manifold to feed the SDN on each of my systems. The manifolds are fed by either the return pump or a Dedicated external BlueLine. I use a dedicated BL40 on my 300/150 and the BL 40 return feeds the manifold on the 100 gallon.

I think I'll do it that way (manifold off the return as I have "pump to spare" on there now). Thanks, Dave. Off to buy some LSM on Tuesday I suppose.
