Kent came out with a new reef salt not the marine salt and i was wondering if anyone has tried it. Ive heard good things. Looking for opinions on a quality salt for zoas and lps no sps here.

Is this a new product, or just a new label on the old product? Kent salt has been around for many, many years. I used to sell a LOT of it but eventually stopped carrying it when demand shifted to Seachem (in addition to IO/Reef Crystals).

There were some QC issues with Kent salt after the production facility changed. To my knowledge that got resolved, but like I said, many folks had switched by then.

I looked the product up in my distributor's catalog - the packaging has changed but the SKU numbers are the same.

im not sure i thought there was kent marine salt and now its kent reef salt. The specs seem to be higher than reef crystals as far as calcium and mag go.

Maybe they've reformulated the older product. What I do know about Kent salt is that it used to be packaged by Aquarium Systems, and Kent provided the proprietary compounds. Aquarium Systems made Instant Ocean.

In response to the popularity of Kent's premium salt, Aquarium Systems came up with Reef Crystals.

When Central Garden & Pet bought Kent and other entities, Aquarium Systems didn't package the Kent product anymore. And Aquarium Systems and other entities like Marineland/Perfecto are now owned by United Pet Group.

Central owns AGA/Aqueon, Kent, Coralife/ESU, Oceanic and a host of other pet-related companies.

UPG owns Marineland, Aquarium Systems, Tetra and other pet-related companies too.

I'm headed to a trade show next month - I'll see Central reps there - I'll ask them if it's a new formulation or if it's just new packaging. Like I said, the SKU (UPC) numbers are the same as the original Kent salt. The original Kent salt was a higher quality salt - more trace elements, etc., and more formulated to reefs.

It's not my favorite. It's not the best deal either. Heck I sell Salinity for a better price than that.

You're dating yourself there - that was a LONG time ago!

Occasionally IO would come with a towel or a t-shirt or a powerhead in the bucket... recently they had samples of their line of fish food in the bucket.

Like getting a toy in a box of cereal or Cracker Jack!

Well I am already treading into commercial territory here, so I'll send you a PM to keep myself out of trouble ;)
