I'd like to get some advise from those that have treated their tank with Kent Tech M.

I started dosing Kent Tech M on February 10th in order to get ahold of some of the bryopsis that has popped up in my display tank. On Sunday the Mg got up to 1800 (because I failed to test it daily), I tested again yesterday and found that it dropped back down to 1450, I dosed another 80 cc's last night and will test later today.

In order to pluck the longer algae I bought these https://www.marineandreef.com/SearchResults.asp?Search=tweezers&Search.x=0&Search.y=0">https://www.marineandreef.com/SearchResults.asp?Search=tweezers&Search.x=0&Search.y=0</a> I received them yesterday and will start plucking all of the longer algae the first week of March. I don't want to do it before then because I don't want to lower the Mg by adding freshly mixed SW.

My question is this - while the Mg is raised in the tank to kill bryopsis, do you think that I can use a toothbrush to scrub the bryopsis that is already wilting away? If the higher Mg already kills bryopsis off that is established, wouldn't it also kill off what is in the water column if I were to brush it off the rock?

I appreciate the feedback and input. I just want the stuff gone, I want my tank looking good again.

<span style="color: black"><span style="font-family: Verdana">I just won the battle with tech-m. I only had to take my mag. level to 1600. I didn't manually remove much of the bymosis, is just degraded (I had a lot of it). When I did a water change, I just put some Tech-m in the new sw before change the water. My total water volume is about 300gal. I didn't get worried about measuring and calculating dosing. I added about 2 cups of tech-m per day for 2 weeks. Now I add about a 1/2 cup per week just incase. I haven’t tested mag. since the brymosis has disappeared.</span></span>

Petrasb - that is good to know. Do you have any clams in your tank? One of my clams is opening wide but the mantle is not coming out as it did.

I was able to get rid of my bryopsis using Tech M. I raised my mag to ~1700 over a week period. I think it took less than a week at that level to see an effect on the stuff. I also didn't bother removing it. It just sort of wilted away on its own though I did run my skimmer a bit on the wet side. I think it took about 2 weeks to get rid of it all. I maintained that level for a month to ensure total eradication. You can't chance even a tiny spec of it surviving.

One thing though for me is that I didn't have any corals or inverts in my tank at that time. Only 2 fish so there was no real risk in using this.

Terry,

Thank you for the response. I am going to keep it as 1700 for another 18 days. I definitely can see it withering away. I have not seen any ill effect on anything other then the clam at this point. I am really interested though in knowing whether scrubbing it off of the rock with the high Mg would cause even more harm.
