I have a bad crab hitching in my 70G reef tank. I've tried to trap it by baiting a pickle jar but the thing is too smart for me. It's one of the ugly nasty Gorilla crabs. I thought I had gotten rid of it awhile back but I guess there must have been two! This one is freakin huge now. I saw it a few nights back and tried to catch it but the other night I caught sight of it just as it was tearing up my Coco Worm! This thing is going to die. I'm not stopping until it is out of tank for good! If anyone wants to go crab hunting tonight let me know. He's going down. :shout:

I'm going diving tonight... it will be out before the morning!

Just got a good look at the bugger... I think I need a bigger boat!

Good luck! A hot dog on a string used to work everytime on the shore. Too bad they'd introduce too many nitrates.

Well alright!!!! Killer Crabs - 0 and BOBZ - 1 !!!!!

I kicked butt tonight!

Dude! You said there were gonna be chicks at this party!

Good job. It takes some commitment to catch something like that, especially with an established tank like yours. Please do detail how you did it!

Yep, the little booger would not go in to my trap! I baited it with squid, fish, shrimp, oysters... a feast fit for a king (crab). I spent a couple of hours watching and waiting. The big problem I had was that the crab was hanging out under the base rocks and there was no way to get that rock out with out tearing down the tank. Finally, around 1AM, it moved out from under the base rock and started moving up the rockwork towards the trap. It never went in to the trap but atleast it was under a piece of live rock I could get to. I ended up removing several corals and and could get to the rock it was on and I snatched the rock out of the tank and in to a bucket. Thankfully the crab came along for the ride and i was able to pick him off the rock. I put every thing back in place with only minimal disruption. I'm glad he is out of the tank. My population of feather dusters was doing great but was being decimated by this monster.

On a side note, while I was trying to catch the crab, I found my Flame Bubble Tip anenome that I thought met it's maker a long time ago! :yay: It's pretty pale but it is still alive! Rawn - maybe there is still hope for your GBTA!

Awesome catch!! Now, since others have mentioned mantis shrimp, what we need is a nice video of him going into such a tank. That would make for some great footage!!

I'm sure it is just a coincidence but today all the cleaner shrimps and peppermint shrimps in the tanks were literally dancing around the tank. Usually they stay hidden all the time and i only see them at feeding time, furtively peeking out from behind the rock work.
It is as if they are joyfully singing "Ding Dong the crab is dead, Which old crab? The wicked crab. Ding Dong the wicked crab is dead!"
