Killing Live Rock/ Bacteria

I would like to completely kill the bacteria/ live rock in my tank and would like some member feedback on the best way to go about doing so.

I drained my tank a couple of weeks ago and now the live rock is completely out of water (12 days dry so far). While I would like to take the rock out and give it a peroxide bath, the piece is just too heavy... I have a boulder that is 130 lbs, and it is just not feasible to take it out of the tank.

I have considered filling the tank with fresh water from the hose and then draining it once again before re-starting the system. Tap water contains both chlorine and fluoride... surely this would kill any remaining salt water bacteria?

I appreciate everyone's feedback.

Can you just buy a lot of H2 O2?

You could always get a higher concentrated amount, as an option....

Just get 10, 20 gallons of it and make sure everything is saturated for like an hour is so, rince a few million times with to water though.....

I am not 100% sure... I don't THINK that salt water bacteria can live in fresh water so RODI water may be just as good.

Can you see any negative effects of using tap though?

I thought about that too. Do you see this having any negative consequences on live stock once it is all rinsed out and the tank restarted?

Nope, as long as you rinse off any remaining dead tissue, dead bacteria, dead algae...

H2o2 would be harmless after rinse.....

Rinse with RO...

Yeah man that rock is porous like a sponge it will absorb phosphates and other crap out of that tap water. Not completely sure what the purpose of this is but few things survive a freshwater/saltwater transition.. cyano can. Just fill up your tank with RO water and let it run for 2 weeks. Don't let the water sit still, keep it flowin'

If you do use the peroxide you dont really have to rinse anything due to the peroxide if you arent getting things started again right away. Peroxide breaks down (reduces) pretty quickly when exposed to light and air like bleach but faster. Thus the dark/opaque bottles you always find it in at stores. You may want to eventually rinse and drain a few times with water afterwards to remove any broken down crud.

I am fixing to put all my once live rock into a hydrogen peroxide bath tonight and let it dry and rinse with water. Hopefully get rid of the "bad algae" for good.

Leave rocks on porch in the weather for 1 month.

Bleached/ rinsed/ cleaned

An h202 bath of 10 percent maybe....but if the boulder is 130lb...can you imagine how expensive that would be to cover it in just h202?

Def dont add tap water!!

the rodi sounds like a winner after researching dif types of bacteria.

is your tank infected w a bacteria? Something in peticular your trying to kill??

Just curious....
