I am thinking about setting up my new tank about 20ft from where we are about to begin renovating our kitchen (knocking down a wall, building new cabinets, painting).

I plan on taping off the living room from the kitchen to ensure dust and dry wall doesn't get everywhere, but can there be any harm in the fumes from paint, etc. traveling around the house near an open top tank?

Forgive me in advanced for being paranoid about this, I just don't like hurting my animals, so any necessary precautions are worth it to me.

Not sure yet, still waiting to hear back from several contractors on what their plans are. I am assuming it will be mostly standard types of paint.

it would not hurt anything to drape a piece of plastic over the tank and sump area for air born dust. as for vapor in the air that's different. i would think latex would be fine but you should try to keep as much out as you can. keep a fan in the window to exhaust the fumes out of the kitchen.

Cover the hvac and doorways with tape and plastic and youll be fine. Don't use oil paints on walls. You can use oil on trim won't be enough surface area to make a difference. Dust is your nemesis, not fumes. Use low voc paint.

You said "new" tank. Why not just wait until the rennos are done, or at least mostly done.

I may or may not have taken apart a motorcycle in my apartment, and the fuels caused all my coral to shrink up. They were fine, but it was stress /-=
